Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been practised in India for thousands of years as a part of Ayurveda. In India, Ayurveda was a highly developed and effective system of medicine and acupuncture was only used for those diseases that did not respond to Ayurveda treatment. Acupuncture, like allopathy, homeopathy or ayurveda is a complete system of medicine. Like other systems of medicine it has a treatment for almost every disease Some ailments respond better to acupuncture than to any other system of medicine. Those who receive acupuncture often mot only heal physically, but experience new and profound states of peace, clarity and harmony through treatment which often has lasting impact. Studies indicate that acupuncture influences the central and peripheral nervous system. Evidence shows it release endorphins from the brain which makes acupuncture particularly effective in pain control.

Shirodhara

Shirodhara is an Ayurvedic head massage technique which involves the dripping of a slow stream of warm oil onto the forehead (third-eye). Oils used in the treatment are chosen based on the dosha body type of the person being treated. The oil is used by the massage therapist in applying massage and reflexology techniques to the scalp, face, and neck regions of the body. Overflow of the dripping oil from the head is captured in a basin that is placed on the floor or a low table beneath the recipient’s head position.

Kati Basti

The indications for this therapy are backache, degenerative spine changes, compressed discs, osteoporosis, sciatica, hip pain, shoulder pain, and spinal cord compression. Most of the time, vata dosha is the culprit in this area, so warm castor oil, or dashmoola oil, work well for kati basti. St. John’s wort is not a typical ayurvedic herb, but its nerve and connective tissue healing infused oil is tailor-made for kati basti. The properties of herbal oils used for this basti deeply clean and fortify the blood, build strong muscle and connective tissues, and lubricate the joints. Kati basti is likely to alleviate most types of lowback pain.
